Our weekly Top 3 plus more info on where to Report a Scam

Before we give you our Most Annoying Numbers for the week, here’s a list of institutions that can help you deal with a scam:

1. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has consumer advisories on international and text message scams.

2. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) provides information on phone scams and spam.

3. The National Fraud Information Center (NFIC) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

4. All major U.S. wireless companies can help you with their spam blocking technologies.

And so this week for our top 3, we have a Spanish autodialer with 11 comments and 2085 search requests; we have a spammer looking for k.smith because her debit card has been locked, and lastly, we have our resident caller telling you to claim your Royal Caribbean or Carnival Cruise prize. Remember guys, don’t fall for it!

Alexis on the number 9546394558:

Called in Spanish with an automated voice and hung up. Called me three times in a row. Called back and pressed 0 to talk to someone and got the busy tone. Apparently this number is popular for doing this and it is out of Florida- one search said something about insurance or some such, not sure. I don’t even know how it got my number seeing as I do not live there.

3124651642 – let’s hear it from Sherly and Eva:

I don’t think this number is trustworthy at all. They left a recorded message on my answering machine, saying that my prepaid Master card had been locked and that I’d have to “press 1” to unlock it. The thing is, I don’t have a Master Card, so unless they made an error, I’m pretty sure this is some sort of scam.

Same thing just happened to me. I used my debit card to withdraw money. Two hours late this automated message said it was locked. I knew it wasn’t true so I hung up. It wasn’t locked there was no way it could be locked I know because I was the last one to use it. DO NOT ENTER YOUR 16 CARD NUMBER IF YOU HAVE ONE. THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU DO. I THOUGHT TWICE AND IM GLAD I DID!

And Neno reported 3125855673 as Telemarketer:

The call started with recorded message that i have wont cruise deal with Royal Caribbean or Carnival Cruise and to hold the line for customer service, JASON comes on and i let him have it for calling my listed phone number with dontcall.gov ….. He said that I have called him i told him I will report him and his company..he said go ahead and let me know how it go. I think when i pressed number 1 to be connected to live operator the phone switch the connection making me looks like i called them. New trick ….. Low life trash marketing people..

Enjoy your day,
