We are all experiencing an unprecedented pandemic worldwide and it makes us more vulnerable toward scammers, as we all care about our health and are looking for the latest update of the coronavirus. How scammers are taking advantages of the pandemic? As we are desperate for information of the virus, scammers are now trying all they can. According to FTC, the scammer are taking advantages of the fears of coronavirus. Cyber scammers are setting up bogus websites selling products such as the latest most wanted toilet papers, food, medicine etc. But there is only thing they really want from you – your personal and financial information. For phone scam, CBS Pittsburgh reported that a phone scammer claimed to be with “Pure Rejuvenation Products” was calling to try to steal personal information, from a former police office. The scammer claimed that they had medicine people could take for coronavirus and started asking about personal information, the former police officer knew right away something didn’t add up.   • FTC stated that currently there are no vaccines, pills, potions, lotions, lozenges or other prescription or over-the-counter products available to treat or cure Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). If a scammer is offerring the above products, then it is definitely a scam.
  • Be alert when caller claims to be from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or experts saying they have information about the virus. Please go to the official CDC website for the latest details of the coronavirus.
  • If you receive calls claiming from the charity – please double check before donation, search for the organization and make sure it is valid.
